“The key to my longevity is definitely aligning with a national holiday,” Cassandra Peterson, the woman who has played Elvira since 1981, told TODAY. She was born and raised in the small-town of Manhattan, Kansas where she desired to be a horror film star after falling in love with the genre when she was eight.
